WHEN: Seminars are June 18, 2008 to November 11, 2009. Enrollment by April, 2008 is recommended, and study assignments for the first course begin in April, 2008.

MEETING TIMES: 5-day intensives from Wednesday to Sunday approximately every other month.

COST: 10 COURSES FOR $400 each plus some cost of books, etc. Total cost including materials is approximately, $4,400.00

PREREQUISITE FOR THIS INTENSIVE SCHEDULE: This program is specifically for professionals and advanced students in astrology. You should already be fluent with the basic language of the meanings of planets, aspects, houses, and zodiac signs, and rulerships. You should also have some familiarity with the use of transits and progressions. Because every astrologer has areas in which they have greater interest, knowledge, and experience, and other areas which they have little knowledge of, your exposure to astrological ideas is unique and a broad range of previous experience and knowledge of astrology is likely among attendees.

CLASS MEETING DETAILS: Classes start at 1 PM on Wednesday and end on Sunday at 5 PM. Gainesville is exactly half way between Miami and Atlanta, and is about a 5 to 5 1/2 hour drive from both of these destinations. Classes are given every 7 to 8 weeks so there are 10 five-day intensives approximately every 7 to 8 weeks. Classes are held at the Avalon school in Gainesville, FL. The schedule is very intensive, as follows:

  • Wed. 1 PM - 5 PM, 7 PM - 9 PM
  • Thu, Fri, Sat: 9 AM - 9 PM, 1 hour lunch and 1 hour dinner break, morning and afternoon 15-minute breaks
  • Sun: 9 AM - 5 PM, 1 hour lunch break. From 1 PM to 5 PM is the exam and review of the exam, and handouts and introduction to next course

ACCOMODATIONS: There are several hotels in Gainesville, FL. The closest hotel to the above address is the Best Western Gateway Grand. If you mention “The Avalon School Group” you will get a discounted rate of $89 (double room), $99 (Deluxe King), $119 (Premier King), $134 (Grand Suite). Rates include free continental breakfast, free internet connection, and free use of their business center. Airport pickup can also be arranged from the hotel. Reservation number: 1-877-464-2378. Ask for “The Avalon School Group” rate. All rates are based upon availability and rates are subject to sales tax.

Feel free to make a comparison from different hotels in the area. You might find a cheaper rate when it is not a busy season.

MANAGING THE INTENSIVE SCHEDULE: The library will be setup for meditation and one of the other rooms will be set up as an exercise room. Weather permitting, attendees may also want to take a short walk during 15-minute breaks. There is a public park at the back of the school campus that you take a walk to. It is a wooded area and is safe. There is a grocery store, Mexican restaurant, and deli less than 1 mile from the school.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING:

  • Gain greater clarity and understanding of the historical roots of astrology!
  • Gain an understanding and facility in doing classical horary astrology!
  • Gain a greater understanding of Hellenistic, Vedic, and other ancient systems
  • Communicate better with scentists and other academics on what astrology is and the different views on astrology!
  • Learn how to use cosmobiology and harmonics in chart interpretation!
  • Learn research methods that are really able to determine factors that are not occurring randomly in the group of charts!
  • Understand very clearly the astronomical basis of astrological interpretations, and the similarities and
differences from the ways that astronomers measure planetary positions and view celestial objects!
  • Receive training that is geared to meet your needs and where every attendee is fully respected and appreciated!
  • Learn from astrologers who have expertise in the subject they are teaching!
  • Share, learn, and grow with others who have devoted a great amount of time to the field of astrology!
  • Most of all, remove the holes in the "Swiss cheese". In other words, fill the gaps in your knowledge and gain greater depth of understanding.
  • Treat yourself to some time to grow in the subject you love: astrology!
  • If you are already a professional astrologer, then certification may not be important to you, but interest in certification and establishing professional standards in astrology appear to be spreading. There are some businesses that require astrologers to be certified.
  • Upon completing this 10-course program, you have fulfilled all academic requirements to take the ISAR exam, and we are confident that graduates of this program will pass the exam. You will also be granted the PAC certificate (Professional Astrology Certificate) from Avalon.

CLASS TIME AND INTERVAL: Intensives will be approximately every 7 weeks. Students will be given handouts and purchase materials 7 weeks ahead of time and should carefully study the information during the 7 weeks. Students can correspond by e-mail with the instructor during the 7 weeks. A Yahoo group account has also been established for this group to join. Students should know the material BEFORE the intensive to make it possible to absorb the materiasl in 5 days.

During the 5-day intensive, classroom lectures will alternate with exercises, practice sessions, question-and-answer periods, etc. The instructor will highlight key features of the material that was studied, add additional material, and give ungraded quizzes and exercises to help students master the material. Students will be able to explore areas that may be unclear and/or explore particular areas of interest within the course material.

HOMEWORK AND TIME COMMITMENT: Students will be given handouts and purchase materials 7 to 8 weeks ahead of time and should carefully study the information during these 7 weeks. Students can correspond by e-mail with the instructor during this 7 - 8 week time period. We are also thinking of setting up a Yahoo group rather than use e-mail. Students should know the material BEFORE the intensive. Otherwise it is impossible to absorb the material in 5 days. If you study 1 hour per day, you will have completed about 50 hours of study during the 7 - 8 weeks preceding a course. We do not recommend trying to cram the information in over a few days preceding the seminar because it is very difficult to absorb and master the material over a brief time. Also, ongoing correspondence via e-mail with the instructor can be very helpful.

CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION: During the 5-day intensive, classroom lectures will alternate between exercises, practice sessions, question-and-answer periods, etc. The instructor will highlight key features of the material that was studied, add additional material, and give ungraded quizzes and exercises to help students master the material. Students will be able to explore areas that may be unclear and/or explore particular areas of interest within the course material.

FACULTY: All instructors have extensive expertise in the subjects they teach. Most instruction is given by David Cochrane and Michelle Gould. Other instructors may be Lee Lehman and Katarina Campagnola. Terry Gisele teaches the Ethics and Counseling course. All instructors are highly qualified and additional information about them is given at the Avalon website, www.AvalonAstrology.com

ATTENDING COURSES: You may attend individual courses rather than attend the entire program of 10 courses. We adapt the curriculum to the needs of students enrolled for the full program, but students who enroll in particular courses without attending the entire program are very welcome and can benefit tremendously from the courses as well.

REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION: To graduate from the program you must attend all seminars and pass the exams. If you study prior to the attendance of the seminar and you focus on the class material, you should be able to pass the exam.

OPTIONAL: Seminar at Avalon coming soon: Demetra, Dennis, and David seminar in March.
