AGY101:
THE HISTORICAL ROOTS OF ASTROLOGY: In this course we will
find out "where astrology came from".
Historians understand the basic process by which astrology developed.
Some of the
details are lost but we know the basic principles and methods by which
astrology was first developed. As we learn how astrology began, questions
arise about the relationship of astrology to scientific and mathematical
truth. This is an exciting exploration into fundamental principles that
spawned astrological thinking, and also affected other academic areas
as well. We will learn about the important contributions of Karl Popper,
Thomas Kuhn, and others regarding the nature of science that may surprise
you. We will gain a clearer understanding of the relationship of astrology
to science from the perspective of modern scientists. You may be surprised
at what we discover! After this course you will be better able to communicate
with academics regarding the nature of astrology, its relationship to
science, and you will gain a better appreciation of important historical
turning points in astrology. You will also have a clearer understanding
of where concepts like the zodiac, houses, and how and why various forecasting
methods were created. We will discover that some of our modern ideas have
ancient roots and some were developed much more recently. Instructors:
David Cochrane, Fei Cochrane, Michelle Gould
AMY
102: UNDERSTANDING ASTROLOGICAL TECHNIQUES BY UNDERSTANDING THE UNDERLYING
ASTRONOMICAL PRINCIPLES: In this course
we will become clearer about the
astronomical basis of the things we interpret. What really is declination,
and why is the word "parallels" used to describe two planets
with the same or opposite declinations? What is the projected position
of a planet and why do astrologers use it instead of the actual position?
What is the permanent and constant cosmic clock upon which the calculation
of houses is based? Why are planet positions in the chart not as we see
them in they sky? (There are several reasons). Why do astrologers use
only some of the measurement methods that astronomers use? Why is there
so much excitement about the Kuiper Belt and what exactly is the Kuiper
Belt? Why do I need to understand astronomy to understand the ancient
system of forecasting known as primary directions? Why are there so many
systems for calculating primary directions and secondary progressed houses?
Why are houses unequal in size? Why did Jim Lewis use in mundo positions
in astro*cartography and what exactly are in mundo positions? After you
complete this course you will know the answers to all of these questions
and many more. Astrology is based on astronomy so let's improve our understanding
of astronomy! Some astrological methods are difficult to grasp without
having a clear understanding of the astronomical basis. For example, the
ancient system of primary directions cannot be properly understood without
a better understanding of astroomical coordinate systems and celestial
motions. We will also make surprising discoveries such as an underlying
consistent them underlying primary directions, secondary progressions,
and solar arc directions. We will become better astrologers by having
a much clearer understanding of the astronomical basis of our interpretations!
Instructors: David Cochrane, Fei Cochrane, Michelle Gould
AGY151:
CUTTING EDGE 21ST CENTURY DEVELOPMENTS: COSMOBIOLOGY, HARMONICS, AND
MORE. See how ideas from Rudhyar, Ebertin, and Addey can
work together to form a very powerful system of astrological interpretation.
Get completely
clear about how midpoints are used to interpret charts, and what harmonic
astrology really is. We will also get a better appreciation for why
Dane Rudhyar had such a powerful effect on modern astrology, and how
some of his insights have been largely overlooked. We will see that
some of these modern ideas were used in ancient times with different
terminology. See how these ideas bring greater insight into your own
chart and reveal career potential and talent in a chart. Instructors:
David Cochrane, Fei Cochrane, Michelle Gould
AGY270:
CUTTING EDGE 21ST CENTURY DEVELOPMENTS, PART 2: ASTROLOCALITY, COMPATIBILITY,
AND MORE: We will see how the ideas presented in the
previous course are used to gain new insights in AstroLocality, Compatibility,
and how they have been verified by research! Perfect your own ability
to provide vocational counseling and improve communication with clients
by a deeper understanding of underlying motives and drives. This course
will also enhance your understanding and appreciation of many different
astrological systems and their relationshiop to each other. Prerequisite:
AGY 151 or equivalent. Instructors: David Cochrane, Fei Cochrane, Michelle
Gould
AGY111,
ADVANCED FORECASTING TECHNIQUES AND FINANCIAL ASTROLOGY: Most
likely you are already familiar wth using transits and progressions
to forecast. In this course we will see how we will see how recent breakthroughs
in forecasting methods and new research tools made possible the discovery
of an astrological formula for forecasting gold prices with statistical
significance! Gain a greater understanding of research terminology and
how forecasting methods can be verified. We will see how graphs showing
accident proneness actually correlate with accidents of famous people.
We will learn how techniques learned in previous classes can be used
efficiently and effectively in consultations and in financial astrology.
We will learn how an AstroSignature for forecasting gold prices with
statistical significane was discovered. We will also learn cutting edge
methods for electional astrology that are more efficient than older
methods. Prerequisite: AGY270 or equivalent. Instructors: David Cochrane,
Fei Cochrane, Michelle Gould
AGY157
CLASSICAL HORARY: Classical horary astrology as practicied
by William Lilly and others is growing in popularity. We will see
what all the
excitement is about, and we learn the rules that Lilly and others use.
Be prepared to be surprised that a very different conceptual framework
for analyzing charts works very effectively! Horary astrology is practical,
fast, efficient, and straightforward. See how commonly asked questions
regarding lost objects, business deals, etc. can be answered. If you
have studied classical astrology, you know that one never stops learning
so if you have some experience with classical horary techniques, you
can still benefit from taking this course. Instructors: TBA
AGY156
VEDIC ASTROLOGY: Terms like vargas, dasas, and yogas may
sound unfamiliar or vague to you now, but in this course you will
become comfortable
with these concepts from Vedic astrology. You will develop a very good
feeling and sensitivity to Vedic astrological methods, and you will
see in what ways Vedic astrology differs from ancient and modern systems.
We will focus on actual chart interpretation and forecasting using Vedic
astrology, so this course, like our other courses, shows you how to
apply the ideas in consultations as well as use the theory. Instructors:
TBA
AGY158
ANCIENT ASTROLOGICAL METHODS: We will explore the work of
some very important contributors to ancient astrology. We will gain
an understanding
of how astrologers like Vettius Valens and Bonatti interpreted charts
and how modern astrologers are applying these ideas. While doing this
we will also understand the fascinating and sometimes surprising history
behind the techniques we use today. The course content is somewhat flexible
and can be adapted to student interests. Prerequisite: AGY157 or equivalent
Instructors: TBA
AGY251
COUNSELING AND ETHICS: Psychologists, therapists, financial
advisors, and even real estate agents receive training in ethics.
Until you have
taken this course, you might feel that you already are ethical and mature,
but you are likely to find that there are many specific issues and ways
for handling situations that are effective and ethical that are not obvious
if you have not taken a course like this one. The counseling techniques
used by modern therapists have been refined and perfected in past decades,
and every astrologer benefits by better understanding the counseling techniques
of professional therapists. This course will help you in your consulting
practice, and it will help you communicate effectively with psychologists
and therapists regarding the nature of an astrological consultation, and
how it compares to the work of the therapist. You will see how astrological
work can complement psychological therapy, and how astrological consultations
must be given in order to be compatible with the work of psychologists
and therapists. Instructor: Gisele Terry
Completion of this course fulfills the ISAR Ethics Training Requirement
and the ISAR Counseling Skill Requirement.
AGY202
PRACTICUM 1: Applying the Principles: Our understanding of
what we have learned in the previous 9 courses will be refined and
perfected
as we apply these ideas in consultations with volunteers who come in to
have a consultation with you, the attendees of the course. As we analyze
the charts we will learn more subtle nuances and gain additional insights
into how an accurate and helpful astrological analysis is done. Instructors:
David Cochrane, Fei Cochrane, Michelle Gould, Katarina Campagnola
